Position Summary

Title:            Research Assistant: Home Affairs and Social Policy

 

Reports to:    Research Group Director

 

Location:      Cambridge (UK)

 

Salary:         Competitive

 

We wish to recruit an exceptional candidate at Research Assistant level. The role will be based at our Cambridge (UK) office but there will be some opportunity for travel. Fluency in English is essential. Proficiency in one or more other languages would be an asset. The Home Affairs and Social Policy Research Group undertakes contract research and analysis in a range of public policy areas, including crime and justice, employment, well-being at work, migration, education and other socio-economic topics. Our work spans projects in developed and developing countries and we have an extensive portfolio of work for different the EU, national governments, charitable foundations and others.

 

In this role, you will Address complex policy questions by supporting research and analysis on behalf of our clients, support corporate activity as required and support the research group in submitting proposals and delivering multiple projects in a timely and accurate manner.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supports project teams in research by:
    • conducting literature reviews
    • conducting, supporting and transcribing interviews
    • undertaking analysis of quantitative and qualitative data
    • preparing presentations and research briefs
    • coordinating meetings and events, including taking minutes
  • Analyses calls for tender to identify proposal requirements, with supervision
  • Supports the collation of administrative documents for proposals
  • Drafts sections of reports under supervision
  • Proof reads and checks documents
  • Makes corporate contributions through supporting RAND processes such as quality assurance and research ethics
  • Provides occasional corporate support with administrative tasks
  • Communicates with clients with supervision
  • Ad hoc duties as required. 

Skills, Qualifications and Experience

Skills and Experience:

  • Some relevant experience in a similar or a research role
  • Basic knowledge of qualitative and quantitative methodologies and their application
  • Basic report writing
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Intermediate Word
  • Intermediate Excel
  • Intermediate PowerPoint.

Qualifications:

  • Post graduate degree or equivalent.
